The New Grief Point School or ????? (Web Posted May 31)

As the plans for the new school continue to develop we kept calling it the NEW Grief Point. Suddenly we came to the realization that why does it have to be called that? We took that question to the older students (Grades 6-7) in the school and they overwhelmingly felt that a new name was a great idea. We surveyed teachers and a strong majority also felt a new name was a good idea. The PAC had discussions and came to the conclusion that it could be time for a new name. But as they speak for all you parents out there, they wanted you to have a chance to be in on the discussion. Do you think the new school should have a new name? Send an e-mail to gppc@sd47.bc.ca and tell us your thoughts. We will post some of your comments in the next newsletter. Here are some comments gathered so far...

"When I go to conferences and tell teachers that I work at Grief Point Elementary... They look at me kind of strange and say, oh... what happened there?" -teacher

"This is a chance to start new with a new name, not that Grief Point is a bad name, but the school is no longer there." -teacher

"I think we should name it after Robert Thirsk from Powell River because he is a learning inspiration for kids." -student

"I have lots of good memories of Grief Point, but the new school will not be where those memories happened." -student

"As it is a new and improved Grief Point... I think it should be Grief Point 2.0" -student

"Changing the name from Grief Point will only confuse people." -student

"I like the name Grief Point, I went there and now my kids go there." -parent
